OpenHEX X44 cloud-native edge intelligent controller architecture

    Benefits

    Lower infrastructure overhead

Connect OpenHEX to the host platform through an IoT broker without a separate cloud gateway. Reduce the supporting hardware your teams need to install, power, and maintain.

    Efficient hardware investment

Manage up to four doors from one controller in supported OSDP configurations. Select reader arrangements that meet entry and exit requirements while making effective use of controller capacity.

    Reduced maintenance effort

Give technicians clear visibility into controller connectivity, reader communication, and input/output activity. Local diagnostics help teams identify issues faster and spend less time tracing faults.

    Lower electrical damage risk

Protect your controller investment against common electrical faults. Reverse-polarity, input-transient, and reader power short-circuit protection help reduce exposure to hardware damage and associated repair work.

    Simpler expansion across sites

Add controllers as your access control requirements grow. OpenHEX’s broker-based architecture supports centralized connectivity across multiple locations, simplifying the rollout of additional sites.

    Versatile Compatibility

Secure and futureproof your facilities with support for legacy and modern reader protocols - Wiegand, OSDP, OSDP SC, and more.

    Frequently asked questions

An access control controller is the central hardware that connects readers, door devices, inputs, and outputs with access control software. It receives credential information, processes access decisions, and controls door locking mechanisms. The OpenHEX X44 is a 4-door, 4-reader intelligent access controller designed for enterprise access control environments.

The number of doors depends on the controller model and reader configuration. The OpenHEX X44 supports up to 4 doors and 4 readers, with flexible entry, exit, and hybrid reader configurations.

Modern access controllers can support different reader technologies and communication protocols. OpenHEX X44 supports both OSDP and Wiegand readers, including peripheral and intelligent reader architectures.

Yes. Depending on the reader and access control platform, controllers can work with different credential types. OpenHEX X44 supports physical, biometric, virtual, and PIN-based credentials, with standard or custom credential formats up to 128 bits.

OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol) is a communication protocol used between access-control readers and controllers. It provides a standardized way to exchange reader and credential information. OpenHEX X44 supports OSDP communication and can support up to four OSDP readers across two reader ports.

MQTT is a lightweight messaging protocol commonly used for IoT and connected devices. In access control, it can enable efficient communication between edge controllers and centralized software. OpenHEX X44 uses an MQTT-based architecture with TLS 1.3 encryption for secure communication through an IoT broker.

Yes. Controllers designed for modern connected environments can communicate with cloud-based access control platforms. OpenHEX X44 is designed to connect with on-premise, private-cloud, and public-cloud infrastructures using MQTT and TLS 1.3.

Network requirements vary by controller and deployment architecture. OpenHEX X44 is designed to simplify deployment using DHCP-based onboarding, standard secure firewall ports, Wi-Fi 6-compatible Access Point mode, Smart SSIDs, and an embedded web interface for commissioning and diagnostics.
